Laser etching uses a CO2 laser to heat a microscopic layer of the glass surface fast enough to cause controlled stress-fracturing. The design comes straight from a digital file — no physical stencil, no masking — and the machine traces it directly onto the glass in one automated pass.

Sandblasting (also called sand carving) works mechanically instead of thermally.
